Quality of Life for the Elderly People with Visual Impairments and residing in Rural Areas
Youn Hea-Suk

Youn Ga-Hyun
Abstract
The elderly persons with visual impairments, especially who reside in the rural areas, were not much socially recognized when compared to the other people. The purposes of this study were to assess how hard their lives have been and to suggest some ways of improving their quality of life. Basically, they were in need both financially and emotionally for their daily life. That is, the amount of their monthly expenditure was equivalent to about 13% of the monthly income for the urban-area-residing general households. Also, a number of the respondents expressed that they had neither friends nor offsprings who could visit or call them at all. In addition, many respondents suffered from a severe illness. Thus, it was stated that a variety of programs or systems which help them to cope with their needs should be developed or built.
